"Tectonics is a way of talking about the built environment whereby use, structure and experience are explicitly related to the materialization and the making of the built environment."

This international student design competition was held in association with the international conference TECTONICS: Making Meaning. The aim of the design competition was to engage students in the conference and the debate about tectonics. In this design competition, students from different disciplines were asked to give their view on tectonics by creating a design and justifying it in the spirit of TECTONICS: Making Meaning.

The TECTONICS 2007: International Student Design Competition was successful as all the objectives of the competition were achieved. Moreover, both the exhibition and the presentations of the competition on the conference were well received; there were many positive responses from visitors and conference participants.

The work of all 16 second round entrants was exposed on the TECTONICS 2007: International Student Design Competition Exhibition; and the three best entrants were invited to the conference to present themselves and their work to the public.
